Software Support
Software support should play a big part in your decision to purchase software. Software support varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and can include everything from free phone support, support through email or chat or support programs that require payment to take advantage of.
Depending on the type of software that you're purchasing, software support may play a big part in your decision process, or it may not be that important to you. If you are purchasing a software program that you only plan on using occasionally, paying for software support may not make much sense. However, if you plan on purchasing a software license for hundreds of computers, which software support you purchase will be one of the most important decisions that you'll make.
Purchasing Supports
It's common for companies to purchase a support plan when they buy software. Software support plans are usually purchased on an annual basis and vary in cost depending on the amount of support that is needed. If you are purchasing support for a software package that is used in your home, you may not need the coverage that a purchased plan provides.
Some of the most common features that are included in software purchase programs include:
Warranty Support – A limited amount of warranty support often comes standard with software purchases. However, the length of the warranty may be for a term like 90-days or 1-year. If you would like an additional warranty period, you'll have to purchase the additional warranty terms.
Presales Support – Some companies offer presales support for customers that are looking to make large software purchases. Businesses may pay a support fee that covers support after the purchase, warranty support and presales support. Software companies will help you make your purchasing decision when you pay for presales support.
Contact Support – Contact support is the support that you receive after your purchase the software. Again, the support is typically for the larger customers that have purchased large software licenses. With contact support, the software makers will actually send technicians to the site to help you with any software related problems.
Additional Software Support
In addition to purchase support plans, there are several standard support plans that are offered to customers. The support is often free and can be accessed in a variety of ways.
Phone Help
Phone service is one of the most popular forms of help that software companies offer. Novice users tend to feel more comfortable communicating with software companies over the phone. Phone representatives will be able to troubleshoot just about any problem. These trained professionals will walk you through software issues step by step.
Email Help
As email has become a standard form of communication for many, the popularity of email support has continued to grow. Email help for software users offers a reliable way to communicate directly with the software maker. Just like phone service, email service offers a way to get answers to questions about any issue that you may be having with your software.
Chat Help
One of the newest forms of technical help that software makers are offering is chat help. Chat service is available directly from the company website and lets customers speak to representatives in real time. Just like phone or email service, chat can take care of just about any software related issue.
