Web Design Software
There are dozens of web design products on the market. Before you buy, do a little research to help narrow down your choices.
Before you buy
Answer the following questions:
What kind of operating system or OS do you have? Most programs are either for windows or mac.
What kind of HTML (hypertext markup language) editor will you use? A text editor or a “what you see is what you get” (WYSIWYG) editor? Most novices start with WYSIWYG which operates much like Word. What you type is what your audience will see. Professionals tend to use the text HTML type editor and have learned the computer language to do so.
Is your web developing software for professional use or for personal use? Professional grade software, which is almost always a text editor, will command a higher price than the web design software geared toward personal use. Prices range from free to thousands of dollars.
Does your web design software need to include a graphics editing program? If you don't have a graphics editing program, like Adobe PhotoShop, consider a product that either includes graphics editing or bundles a graphics program with it.
Do you need connectivity to a database? Do you need to be able to have people pay for product on your web site? Will your audience be global? There is web developing software out there to meet these special concerns.
Where to buy
Once you have determined what your needs are, one of the best places to compare prices and types of web design software is Amazon.com. Amazon lists their top ten sellers and has its buyers rate and review the products. Reviews from professional journals are often included as well. Each individual product has a detailed description of its features. Use your answers to the above questions to determine if that particular web design software is for you.
